Growing patio peonies is not difficult
Patio peonies have modest dimensions, the root system is developing small, so growing peonies in a pot has become a reality, and caring for them is not difficult.
If you want to put a patio-peony on the terrace, you need to plant it immediately in a pot with a diameter of at least 30 cm and a volume of at least 5 liters. At the bottom of the pot you need to pour a small layer of expanded clay, half-fill with the nutrient mixture and plant the plant with the buds up, carefully spreading the roots and sprinkling soil with a container. The rhizome should be covered with soil no deeper than 2-3 cm, otherwise the peony may not germinate. After planting, it is necessary to spill the plant, put the pot with the peony planted in it in fresh air - a sunny place protected from the wind.
Leaving consists in watering as necessary: when the soil in the pot dries to a depth of about 2.5 cm and top dressing once a month with a water-soluble complex fertilizer. Top dressing should be stopped by mid-July. The plant will need to have time to prepare for the winter. By the fall, when the leaves begin to change color, you need to cut the stems, like ordinary peonies, put them in a cool place for storage. In the spring, when it gets warmer, the pot with the plant can be put back into the fresh air.
If the peony grows in rock gardens, or simply in the open ground, then caring for it comes down to watering as needed and top dressing. In the fall, all stems are also cut, and the soil around the plant is mulched.
The control of insects when caring for peonies is minimal, however, peony flowers can be affected by a fungus, for example, late blight or leaf stain. These infections damage stems, leaves, and flowers. With a severe defeat, the plant has to be eliminated. As a prevention of fungal infection, fungicides should be used, insecticides help against insects.
